HELLO, GROWERS! There are so many reasons to be excited about 2027 at Darwin Perennials! For starters, we’re making a bold move further into the ornamental grass category and taking our very first step into daylilies — a milestone moment for our assortment. These launches are especially meaningful to me personally, as much of my career was spent on the landscape side of the industry. With new categories come new opportunities. Our NEW grasses and daylilies are both available as bare root, which is a new product form to Darwin. This opens doors for our product development team for future intros.

At Darwin Colombia, we continue to focus on producing the highest-quality unrooted perennial inputs. We are increasing our emphasis on best practices in harvesting, scouting and sanitation, and adjusting as more effective practices come to our attention. For a look behind the scenes of the life of an unrooted perennial cutting, check this out!

Darwin also offers unique and high-performing varieties from tissue culture. Some recent favorites include Rudbeckia Suntacular, Echinacea Sombrero ® Fuchsia Fandango and Geranium Purple Glow. These varieties all shine just as brightly on a retail bench as they do in the landscape year after year. Finally, don’t forget that your input and feedback greatly influence our breeding direction, production methods and customer support structure, so let us know what you think. Thank you for your business and support.

Sincerely,

ICONS

1. Echinacea Sombrero® – Pages 44-45 Sombrero – the latest addition to our Better Versions family – is better than older coneflower varieties, thanks to better habit, stronger winter hardiness and more flowers per plant! 2. Salvia ‘Blue by You’ – Page 118 ' Blue by You' is better than Salvia May Night because of earlier blooming, better habit and more reflushes throughout the season. 3. Lavender ‘SuperBlue’ – Page 72 ' SuperBlue' is better than Lavender 'Hidcote' because of bigger blooms and a better habit in the landscape. 4. Nepeta Junior Walker ™ – Page 89 Junior Walker is better than Nepeta 'Walker's Low' because of earlier blooming in the landscape and a better habit that won't lodge open.

Better Blooming. Better Performance. Better Availability. After being trialed and evaluated for landscape performance across North America – and up to five years of market sales – we are pleased to present our top four Better Versions®!

CUT FLOWERS

Six reasons perennials make ideal flowers: 1. Perennials return each year, reducing your planting time and costs. 2. Most perennials increase root strength and produce more sturdy stems each year. 3. Perennials offer extended bloom seasons. 4. Once established, perennials are more drought tolerant than annuals. 5. Perennial varieties display unique, visually interesting flower forms. 6. There is a high market demand for perennial cut flowers!

Genesis ™ Callused Cuttings = Better Propagation Success

Lavandula Primavera Callused cutting vs. unrooted cutting at 2 weeks

Buddleia Chrysalis™ Cranberry Callused cutting vs. unrooted cutting at 2 weeks

Darwin Perennials has a number of classes available as Genesis callused cuttings, including: Achillea..................................................................... 18-21 Armeria............................................................................. 27 Artemisia......................................................................... 28 Erysimum............................................................... 48-49 Euphorbia ...................................................................... 50 Gaillardia......................................................................... 52 Helianthemum 56 Heliopsis .......................................................................... 57 Iberis.......................................................................... 67-69 Lavandula................................................................ 71-77 Lithodora......................................................................... 81 Perovskia................................................................. 97-98 Phlox....................................................................... 99-110 Rosmarinus (Herbs) 62 Salvia...................................................................... 113-123 Saxifraga....................................................................... 124 Veronica............................................................. 136-140 Viola........................................................................ 141-142

The benefits of Genesis callused cuttings include: • Two weeks less in propagation. • More uniform rooting. • Less shrink. “ Before we tried Darwin’s callused cuttings, our lavender cutting loss was close to 40%, but now it’s less than 10%. And prop time in the greenhouse is about 50% faster, so we can plant 2 to 3 weeks earlier! It’s a big advantage.

“Kniphofia Glowstick offers a grass-like texture with vibrant yellow flowers appearing mid-Summer and blooming deep into Fall. Glowstick shines brightest when most of the perennial garden is winding down for the season, adding bright color and soft texture to the otherwise-fading landscape.” Karl Batschke “Rosmarinus Blue Cascade can do it all! This gorgeous, aromatic rosemary plant cascades beautifully from hanging baskets and container arrangements. It makes an excellent spiller in mixed combinations, softens the aesthetic of a retaining wall in the landscape and even adds fresh flavor to your dinner!” Mike Annes “Echinacea Double Scoop ™ Watermelon Deluxe has a WOW factor that's unbeatable! Gorgeous, deep-pink flowers start out with beautifully contrasting, darker-center cones that develop into fully double pompom flowers that completely cover the plant! Their high-impact color shines at retail and in the garden.” Sarah Greenwood “Low-maintenance Brunnera Frost King delivers huge silver leaves with showy green venation that brighten shady areas. It’s very deer resistant and holds up in the garden all season.” Darren Barshaw “Helianthemum SunBurst ™ adds a fresh twist to an old-school genus by displaying larger flowers – and more of them – in early-Spring landscapes. Plants form a dense mat of beautiful, silvery-green foliage that holds up well in Summer landscapes. SunBurst is the best of both seasons!” Christopher Fifo
