A few words from our talented product representatives ROOTED IN NEW IDEAS I love being part of Darwin Perennials because we breed for plants that make a difference by solving problems for our customers and their clients. We look for plants that finish faster, provide more disease resistance and perform better in the commercial landscape and home garden. Great work takes time. We spend years looking at potential varieties at trial beds and with growers who do advanced trialing before a plant comes to market. Having an opportunity to see the plants in an array of different environments gives me a good understanding of how they can benefit our grower customers. This trialing and feedback tell the story behind the plants and help the team decide which varieties to move forward.

Darren Barshaw, Product Representative Dbarshaw@darwinperennials.com

BRANCHING OUT In my 30 years of growing perennials, I never used to concern myself with who bred a plant variety or how they did it. As a greenhouse grower, I just wanted high-quality unrooted cuttings of varieties that performed well and looked good for the customer. When I became a technical representative for Darwin Perennials, I was surprised to discover how complex the process of creating a new variety and consistently supplying it to the market is. Our farm in Colombia does everything possible to provide only the best cuttings for our customers. That makes me proud to represent Darwin Perennials and Darwin Colombia to the industry.

Its beautiful bicolor flowers and highly disease-resistant foliage make this a winner in the landscape.” Karl Batschke “Agastache Summerlong checks all the perennial boxes! It attracts hummingbirds as it blooms all Summer. Summerlong showcases as a great container plant in the North and as a landscape plant in the South.” Marion Meesenburg “Geranium Purple Glow dazzles in early Spring with gorgeous purple flowers that are almost iridescent. LAVENDER Extend Your Growing Season with Lavender Spring into the Season with Spanish Lavender Kick off your Lavender season in early Spring with Spanish Lavender varieties, such as the Anouk series, which is hardy to Zone 6. These tender Mediterranean natives bloom under short days and generally require cool treatment to flower. Spanish Lavender are known for their sweet, piney scent and pineapple-shaped flowers with colorful flags, ranging from white to deep purple. They perform very well in landscapes, although this class generally cycles out of flower in the Summer heat. Lavender Primavera, the All-Season Performer An exception in the Spanish Lavender class is Lavender Primavera. It does not require cool treatment to flower and offers strong performance well into Summer! It features Spanish Lavender characteristics as a tender perennial with Zone 7 hardiness, while displaying showy purple bracts. With this season extender, growers and retailers can offer a versatile Spanish Lavender for Fall programs, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. program to English Lavenders, such as ‘SuperBlue’ and ‘Annet.’ These angustifolia types cover your traditional, sweetly scented Lavender needs with the classic flower form used for potpourri. Most English Lavender are first-year-flowering perennials, making it easy to schedule for targeted sales dates. Though some will cycle out of flower in the southern Summer heat, many of these Zone 5-hardy varieties flower all season in most North American regions, making them outstanding landscape plants. English Lavenders, for Warmer Days As days get warmer and longer, transition your Lavender
